Let me start off by saying that there is literally no shortcut to long hair. Since our hair grows at the rate of about half an inch per month, so you really have to put in efforts if you want your hair to be stronger, smoother and longer. Let me tell you that some years back, my hair was rough, lacked luster, and short too. But I payed a lot of attention to my hair and today, if not best, they are at least good enough to make heads turn. You can also have the healthy, bouncy and long hair by simply following the below mentioned tips:

Be Gentle to your hair while washing them

Gently massage your scalp and hair with shampoo for a minute with your fingertips. Massaging helps stimulate the blood flow to the scalp and this, in turn, helps the hair to grow faster. Also, don’t wash your hair too often as it will strip your hair off its natural oil. Wash hair twice or max. thrice a week when it starts to look sticky. This will help hair to regain its natural body. Also, always use a shampoo as per your hair type.

Never skip on conditioner

While shampooing hair properly washes away dirt and product buildup out of the hair, it also strips the hair off its natural oil. Always remember that it’s the natural oil which keeps the hair strands soft and healthy. So, make it a point to use conditioner every time you shampoo your hair. After properly rinsing out shampoo from the hair, apply conditioner on your hair. Let it sit for at least three minutes and after that rinse your hair with lukewarm water until all the conditioner is washed out. Remember that applying conditioner will seal the hair cuticles, and prevents the loss of moisture. 

Give your hair a cold water rinse at the end

This is very important step. Always rinse your hair with cold water at the end as this will seal the cuticles and locks in the moisture every time you wash your hair, thus making your hair shinier and smoother and help them to grow fast. While rinsing hair with warm water will make them frizzier and rough, rinsing them with cold water makes them bouncy, shinier and soft. Apart from this, always air dry your hair.

Get your hair trimmed every six weeks

This needs to be explained. Hair grows from the roots so it’s true that getting a trim won’t make your hair grow faster but it helps to keep the split ends at bay and as a result, the tips of your hair will remain healthy.Trimming one fourth of the inch of your hair every six weeks is imperative as this will prevent the splits from working their way up the strands, and hence you have to cut the hair less often.

A healthy diet

Hair growth rate depends a lot on your overall health. So, if you eat healthy, then your hair will remain healthy. Since hair is made up of Keratin which is protein made up of Amino Acid, so eating a protein rich diet will make your hair strong. Try eating protein-rich foods to see the huge difference it makes in the quality of your hair and it’s growth. Eat a protein rich food like chicken, eggs, spinach, broccoli, cheese, fish, flax seeds, walnuts, beans, milk, yogurt and food rich in omega-3 fatty acids. 

And Fluids.

If you want to have long hair then make it a point to drink lots of water as water helps the body flush out toxins faster. Drinking lots of water will not only make your hair stronger but also your body beautiful and keeps them hydrated.

Massage your hair with oil as massaging helps the blood to flow to the scalp and stimulates your hair follicles. Also deep conditioning hair with a hot oil treatment or deep conditioning hair mask do wonders to the hair. Also, hair masks helps to grow hair fast so go for moisture-based masks once a month. 

Never Brush Wet Hair

Never brush wet hair as that may cause breakage since hair is weak when it’s wet.  Always use wide-toothed comb to brush first and then use your normal comb. 

Brush you hair gently

Please do a favor to your hair by brushing them really gently as rough brushing can harm them. Start brushing hair from the bottom slowly working your way up. Brushing before bed is important too. Brushing hair three or four times a day is enough to stimulate the blood circulation in scalp which will help in hair grow faster. 

Flipping hair upside down

Have you ever tried this? While I don’t know whether it works or not but I do flip my hair upside down by flipping my head over for few minutes whenever I get some free time. It has been believed that it helps the hair to grow fast.

Apply hair oil 

Applying oil in hair helps promote hair growth. There are many types of oils which helps in hair growth.

Limit the use of hair styling tools

Though its not possible to completely avoid them, but you can limit the use of hair styling tools. Use them only for special occasions. And always use a hair protectant spray or lotion before using hot hair styling tools.

  • Always brush the hair before washing them to avoid tangling.
  • Always loosely wrap your hair in a high bun and secure it with a clip while you sleep. This will protect the hair from friction from the pillow and you will wake up to untangled hair. 
  • Tight bun and braids pull the hair from its roots. This leads to breakage which eventually leads to thinning of hair. So, always tie your hair loosely.
  • Pool water can damage your hair as it contains chemicals. So, before having a dip into the pool, apply conditioner on your hair. This will protect your hair.
  • Never tie your hair too tightly.
  • Accelerate hair growth by oil massaging.
  • Once in a while, go for protein treatments.
  • Maintain good cleanliness for beautiful healthy hair.
