There are so many beautiful places to see in Ranchi and one such place is Rock Garden. Rock Garden is located at a distance of just 4 kms from the Albert Ekka Chowk on the Ranchi-Kanke Road and is carved out of the rocks of Gonda Hill. At the base of Rock garden is the lovely Kanke Dam. It was evening time when my husband and I along with my in laws were coming back from a party, when we happened to cross Rock Garden and the moment I saw it I expressed my desire to see it.
So, we parked our car and after paying a nominal parking and entry fee, went inside the Garden. And my first reaction upon entering inside was it’s indeed one of the picturesque spots in Ranchi. There are well laid gardens with beautiful pathways inside and the whole park is covered with artistic sculptures made from recycled ceramics and stones. There are so many statues inside this park which have been carved out of the rocks of Gonda Hill. There was a hanging bridge inside the garden too. This is one place where children just can’t get bored. There is a small toy train to provide rides to children, lots of swings, Mickey mouse rides, ball jumping etc. Also, there is haunted Egyptian pyramids and Space walk rides which we didn’t explore.
There is an eatery shop also inside the rock garden and many small food vendors to satisfy the hunger pangs.
At the base of the Gonda Hill is the Kanke Dam. This dam offers unmatched tranquility when watched from the Gonda hillock. The view of Kanke Dam from Rock Garden is truly a sight to behold. Kanke Dam is one of the vital identities of Ranchi as this dam is actually a water reservoir which is used to supply water to the Ranchi City.
So, whether you are a nature lover and simply want to spend a quiet evening all by yourself, or a photo fanatic or group of friends who are looking for a peaceful place to hide when the noise starts to get to you, then visit Rock Garden and Kanke Dam. It’s a very beautiful, clean and a totally serene place. Please note that you can visit this place anytime between 8 AM to 8 PM all days of the week and cameras and DSLR’s are allowed, of course after paying a nominal fee for it.
Overall, it is one delightful place that is a must visit whenever you are in Ranchi!
Much Love, Neha
